My IT career began somewhere around the age of 10 when my father brought home a Commodore Vic 20.? I started writing little BASIC programs to display pictures of houses and butterflies.? But my life’s work was writing a choose-your-own-story program.? (I was 10, ok?)? Alas, I reached the end of the Vic 20’s 5K of memory before I reached the end of my story.? *sigh*
Fast-forwarding a bit, I started working with databases about 15 years ago when I did technical support for Informix databases and programming languages in my hometown of Buffalo, NY.? In 1998, I left Buffalo to take a programming job here in Cleveland.? Since then I’ve spent a lot of time wondering whether it’s better to have never been in the Superbowl or to have lost it 4 years in a row.
In early 2000, I decided I wanted to try my hand at database administration.? I was hired to my previous position initially as an Informix DBA, and over the years I transitioned to Oracle DBA and finally to SQL Server DBA.
In October of 2014, I entered the world of consulting and currently work as a Senior Consultant at Fortified Data.? Needless to say I’m very excited about the challenges ahead.
There’s a little part of me that remains a programmer, though, and I love writing code to make my everyday work easier.
In my “other” life, I enjoy power tools, bourbon, and ice from those old aluminum trays.
